How Safe Will Chocolate Treats Be This Halloween?

!±8± How Safe Will Chocolate Treats Be This Halloween?

It seems that parents have to live with continuous worry about "how to protect their children". For the past two years it was lead paint in toys, Autism & vaccination , carcinogens in baby bottles and a ton of other worries and fears. Now this Halloween it's the chocolate recall. Though from what has been disclosed to date , it seems to have started with the British chocolate maker Cadbury and chocolates made in China, and sold in Asia & Australia. Cadbury recalled 11 of it's chocolates believed to be contaminated with melamine , the same ingredient found in Chinese milk products that killed and sickened many babies. These are the recalled chocolates by Cadbury:

Cadbury Dark Chocette 45g Cadbury Dark Chocette 80g Cadbury Eclairs 180g Cadbury Dairy Milk Chocolate 150g Pumpkin Cadbury Dark Chocolate 40g Cadbury Dairy Milk Chocolate Bulk Pack 5kg Cadbury Dark Chocolate Bulk Pack 5kg Cadbury Dairy Milk Hazelnut Chocolate Bulk Pack 5kg Cadbury Dairy Milk Cookies Chocolate Bulk Pack 5kg Cadbury Hazelnut Praline Chocolate 312g (2008 Chinese New Year) Cadbury Dairy Milk Chocolate 300g (2008 Chinese New Year)

The worry here, is that both Kraft Foods and Mars Inc., makers of Oreos, M&M & Snickers, the most favored Halloween treats received claims from Indonesia that high traces of melamine were found in their Chinese-made Oreos, M&Ms & Snickers . Both Kraft Foods & Mars Inc., issued a statement to effect that they are investigating the claims, and looking into all possibilities including counterfeiting. My question is: What are the chances that these chocolates are already on the shelves in the USA, be it directly from the manufacturers, or, if the possibility of counterfeit exists, from other sources.

With greed going rampant, and extremely little concerns about consumers, their safety, and health, by big and very powerful US corporations & the FDA ... I would not be surprised if all hell would break loose in the US once all the Halloween treats sales have already taken place, and already consumed by children. I can't help but wonder about all the people who attended the Olympics this year and thought they were being careful by choosing Cadbury Chocolates over Chinese Brands. Parents should be weary & careful about what their children consume this Halloween 2008.
